U17 BOYS FINALISTS IN HEMPFIELD FALL CLASSIC TOURNAMENT
11/18/2007
The LANCO U17 boys advanced to the final today beating a tough Rheems Raptors 17 team at the Hempfield HS stadium 1-0 and handling a highly ranked Baltimore Predator team 1-0 in Saturday’s games. Lanco goals were scored by Julian Carvajal against Rheems and Grant Anikienko in the Baltimore game. The LANCO boys tied Redland Sunday morning at 9:15 at the Hempfield HS stadium to notch an appearance in the final Sunday afternoon.
The championship game got off to a rough start with three unanswered goals by a fast, strong Coventry U18 team. The second half was a different story though, as LANCO pressured from the kickoff and had their opponents on their heels for much of the half. LANCO finally put one in the back of the "old onion bag" with less than 15 minutes to play after Derek Brubaker sent a cross into the box where the Coventry keeper misplayed the ball and Anthony Palacios made him pay for the mistake. The boys continued to battle but ran out of time with the final result of 3-1.
This tournament was a great start for a new team and should be a good indication of even better things to come!!
U16 BOYS MAKE A GOOD SHOWING AT VIRGINIAN CUP
May 27, 2007
The LANCO United U16 Boys competed at the top flight this weekend at the Virginian Tournament in Springfield Virginia. After battling to a 1-1 against Bucksmont United and a 0-0 tie against Team Takoma in the first two matches, the boys went up 1-0 against Premier AC PAC90. But a win was not in the cards as Premier came back to score two second half goals to notch a 2-1 win. The Lanco boys took out their frustration on Boston Blast in the consolation final by scoring two goals in the first half and made it stick to finish the tournament 1-1-2. Congratulations to the Lanco boys for a great season!!
